Job description & expectations from the guide
You will work as a tour guide in Puumala, preparing tours, helping customers, telling them interesting stories and taking them to the best experiences in Saimaa. You will transport guests in a large open motor boat, and if you are a qualified canoe guide also in canoes and kayaks. More than half of the guests are foreigners and the service language is Finnish and English.
You will help with planning, sales and marketing of excursions
Maintenance of equipment and transfers by car and trailer are part of your duties
We expect you to be a great customer service person and to be able to work both independently and in a team
The guide is expected to be
MOST IMPORTANT Boat driving licence (finnish "vuokraveneenkuljettaja") and a valid First Aid licence
Driving licence
Fluent English language and hopefully some Finnish language skills
Friendly and reliable
Available to work June-June-August, including weekends and evenings, depending on demand
A plus is if you have
Previous experience in guiding and/or other customer service work
Language skills in another foreign language
Qualification as a paddling instructor or paddling guide
Qualification as a fishing guide
A willingness to learn more about guiding, including technical aspects such as the use of the Johku booking system

When do I get hired? April-May 2025. Please apply by 30 March. If you would like to apply for 2026, you can also apply then, as long as you mention this.
When will the job be? From May to June until the end of August or longer

Weekly working hours 20-40 hours depending on orders. If there are a lot of orders, the work will be more, and if there are not many orders, then less. A provisional work schedule is always drawn up for each week and is subject to change if orders require it. If you want a day off on a particular day, that is fine and will be taken into account in the shifts.
Salary issues will be agreed at the interview. Based on the TES for the programme services sector
Modest accommodation is available in Puumala if required.
An apprenticeship is also possible but only if you have some useful qualifications ready, i.e. canoeing instructor or rental boat driver's licence. Without qualifications you cannot work independently as a guide.
